The lightning punctuates his features, most notably his broken glasses, through which the bullet that killed him went before entering his head. So yeah, it can certainly be a rude awakening going from 0 to 1.October 1, 1995: on a stormy autumn night in the Tokyo entertainment district of Kamurocho, a moustached yakuza family boss lies dead on the floor of his darkened office. Compare that to Jingu who pops up out of nowhere at the end with zero build up and a whole seminar of backstory and motivation dropped on you at once. You see the 3 captains from the start and they constantly are developed and shown in pretty much every chapter until their respective showdowns. Extra cutscenes for Shinji, for Reina, maybe the legendary tattoo artist (really seemed like an awesome character to me). Really wish they went all out on the extra cutscenes and did 90 minutes of new cutscenes instead of just 30. Shinji benefits a bit more from his money lending and helping you infiltrate the Tojo funeral early on, but could have benefited from extra character development. He starts off mourning those who passed at the cemetary, pretty much to show that: "Oh no, Kiryu does care! Things just happened a little quick in the first game!"Įspecially Reina is so shocking to see her body just tossed out like that after you getting to know her in 0 so well. Yeah, these games unfortunately take some leaps here and there and expect you to be on board with it, without actually showing and building up certain key relationships so that we can feel for them when they bite the dust.Įspecially 1 has many weird things going on.
